“GRU Space to Build Hotels on the Moon”
San Francisco-based startup GRU Space (USA, California) plans to build hotels on the Moon and aims to send tourists there as early as 2032.
According to Startup.az, the company announced this information on its official website.
The startup justifies its plans by pointing out that, thanks to SpaceX, the cost of sending cargo into orbit has significantly decreased in recent years. The cost of sending payloads into space is expected to continue dropping due to growing competition from companies like Blue Origin and numerous startups worldwide.
The company emphasizes that space is becoming a tourist destination for wealthy individuals.
In the first phase, the hotels will be delivered to the lunar surface along with tourists. These will be inflatable modules accommodating two to four people. With three flights per year, the cost per tourist is projected at $416,000. Later, more complex structures will be built using materials sourced from both Earth and the Moon. These hotels will be able to host up to ten guests, with prices potentially dropping to $83,000. Preparatory test flights are planned for 2029 and 2031 to trial the technologies.
