Asian Development Bank invites Azerbaijani students to an internship program
The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has announced the start of applications for its 2026 internship program for students from member countries, including Azerbaijan, who are pursuing master’s or doctoral degrees.
According to the Bank, applications from graduate and doctoral students will be accepted until March 16.
The program is based on research assignments aligned with ADB’s operational priorities. Through a project-based approach, interns will be able to contribute meaningfully from the early stages of their training. The internship offers an opportunity to gain practical experience within a major international development institution.
Participants will work in a multicultural environment and collaborate with experts from more than 50 countries, gaining valuable global professional experience.
Key requirements include strong proficiency in English, citizenship of an ADB member country, and enrollment in a master’s or doctoral program at an accredited institution in a member country throughout the internship period.
Applicants should be studying in one of more than 30 fields relevant to ADB’s operations. Having 2–3 years of professional experience is considered an advantage.
The initiative supports research in policy and economics and promotes knowledge exchange with academic communities, while also helping identify promising candidates for future employment.
Unless otherwise specified in agreements between ADB and partner universities, all interns receive a stipend. However, participants are expected to cover expenses related to accommodation, transportation, meals, and part of their airfare. Comprehensive health insurance covering the entire stay is mandatory before arrival in Manila.
ADB may reimburse a limited portion of airfare costs when travel is required between the approved departure point (such as the place of study) and the internship location. Most internships take place at the Bank’s headquarters in Manila, Philippines, although opportunities may also be available in its field offices.
Azerbaijan has been a member of ADB since 1999. During this period, the Bank has invested approximately $5.6 billion in the country, including $4.4 billion in the public sector and $1.2 billion in the private sector. The largest financing has been directed toward transport ($1.5 billion) and energy ($1.7 billion).
Under its new partnership strategy, ADB is ready to invest up to $2.5 billion in Azerbaijan.
Founded in 1966 and headquartered in Manila, the ADB brings together 69 shareholder countries, including 50 from the Asia-Pacific region.
