“WeTravel” Acquires a Platform That Generated $1 Billion in Sales
“WeTravel,” co-founded by Azerbaijani entrepreneur Garib Mehdiyev, has acquired New Zealand-based “Tourwriter,” a company that develops software for organizing multi-day and customized trips.
Startup.az reports that “Tourwriter,” which has been operating for more than 20 years, provides tour operators and destination management companies (DMCs) with tools for creating travel itineraries, managing suppliers, calculating prices and margins, handling invoices, and conducting analytics. Over the past two years, more than $1 billion worth of travel bookings have been made through the platform.
WeTravel said the acquisition is part of its strategy to build an AI-powered unified operating system for multi-day travel businesses. Last year, the company also raised $92 million in a Series C funding round.
WeTravel was founded in 2014 by Yohannes Koeppel (CEO), Azerbaijani Garib Mehdiyev (CTO), and Zaki Prabowo (CMO).
