Wetravel, a startup co-founded by an Azerbaijani entrepreneur, has attracted $92 million in investment.
According to Startup.az, the funding round was led by Sapphire Ventures, with participation from Left Lane Capital, Base10, Cross Creek, and several angel investors.
One of the key points making the startup particularly significant for Azerbaijan is that Azerbaijani entrepreneur Garib Mehdiyev is among its co-founders.
The company plans to further develop its “Itinerary Builder” platform using artificial intelligence-based tools. The new features will allow PDF documents to be transformed into interactive and customizable travel itineraries. In addition, the startup is working on agent-based solutions that automate invoicing, data collection, and marketing processes.
WeTravel also aims to expand its “Partner Network,” considered the largest B2B ecosystem for multi-day tour organization, and plans to increase its international presence by opening new offices in Chicago, Amsterdam, Sydney, and Baku.
How the startup idea emerged
The company was founded in 2014 by Garib Mehdiyev and Zaky Prabowo. The founders identified major gaps in the management of group travel tours, realizing there was no unified solution combining booking, payment, and tour planning within a single platform.
As a result, WeTravel focused on one of the most underserved segments of the global tourism industry, creating a digital solution now used by tour operators in more than 200 countries.
An operating system for multi-day travel
Through the WeTravel platform, tour operators can plan itineraries, manage bookings, and integrate global payment systems. Operators are able to accept both online and offline reservations, handle pre-trip and post-trip processes, and send instant payments to partners without additional fees.
The platform’s updated “Itinerary Builder” feature enables tourism companies to convert static PDF documents into interactive and customizable travel plans within seconds.
In addition, the “Partner Network,” recognized as the largest B2B ecosystem for multi-day tour organization, simplifies connections between operators, suppliers, and service partners while automatically managing settlement and invoicing processes. These capabilities help companies save time, reduce errors, and scale globally more efficiently.
What’s next?
The startup attracted $92 million in investment in 2025. The funding will enable the company to expand internationally and further strengthen its technological capabilities. The main goal is to attract new tour operators to the platform and effectively manage rapid global growth.
“This investment round marks a major milestone for the operators who trust us to run their businesses,” said Ted Clements, CEO of WeTravel.
“With this new investment, we will make it even easier for operators to manage all their business processes on a single platform. Multi-day travel involves complex workflows — collecting payments, reconciling bookings and partner payouts, and managing travel details can be both time-consuming and error-prone. WeTravel systematically automates these processes, helping operators work more efficiently, grow faster, and focus on creating life-changing experiences for travelers,” he added.
Meanwhile, Hicham Mhammedi Alaoui, co-founder of Travel Collection Limited and a customer of WeTravel since 2016, noted that the platform has long been at the forefront of innovation in the industry.
He stated that while the company initially operated on the platform with only one operator, it now manages 10 global brands, all of which use WeTravel solutions. According to him, the “WeTravel Transfers” feature particularly enables partners to quickly join the system and process payments seamlessly, while API integration helps incorporate all platform capabilities smoothly into existing travel planning ecosystems.
